Food Drive Was a Success!

Kudos to all who participated in our 1st annual canned food drive!  With your help, Team Fit raised 345.8 lbs of donations. I am very proud of the many who opened up their hearts and gave to the less fortunate.
The local food bank is in desperate need of any donations, especially for the holiday season.  If you would like to donate  to United Way, please let me know and I can forward their closest location to you.

Winter Weather/
School Closing/Class Cancelation
Procedures

Just to review the procedures when it comes to the fast approaching winter weather here in Michigan.  Rule of thumb, if your class is hosted on a school premises, classes will be canceled for that evening and made up at a latter date.  For all classes hosted at a gym facility, check with the local school district to see if there is school for that day. If not, all morning classes will be canceled.  Most of the hosting gyms are within the L'Anse Creuse or Chippewa Valley School District and typically work together re: canceling school.  ONLY MORNING CLASSES ARE EFFECTED BY THIS PROCEDURE. EVENING CLASSES WILL STILL BE HOSTED, UNLESS YOU RECEIVE A PHONE CALL OR EMAIL FROM US.  If you are unsure, please do not hesitate to contact us @ (586) 709-2194.  This is one of the mere reason why we schedule a week break in between sessions.

 Happy Holidays!

This is a special time of the year when we get to celebrate Thanksgiving, Christmas or Hanukkah, and New Year's. The best way to accomplish balance and harmony in your life during this often challenging time of the year is through maintaining your exercise program, eating well, and taking care of you. This is the time to NOT neglect your health & fitness, but IS the time to spend on improving your physical and mental health.  Our full Winter schedule will be available for viewing on the web site beginning December 4th.  Paper brochures will also be handed out in classes next week.   Please make sure that you make note of the start date for the programs which you are interested in.  Most classes do begin the week of January 11th, however, some districts begin the week after.  Below highlights exciting new programs on board, so please check them out!  Remember, no binding gym membership is required for any of Team Fit's programs.  That way there, you only pay for something that you will indeed use!  You can also mix & match classes with the locations.  If you have any questions regarding the m&m discount program,  please do not hesitate to contact me.

This holiday edition of the TF Times is filled with great information that I invite you to spend a few minutes to review.

Be well my friends. I wish you and yours a very happy & healthy holiday season.

New Programs To Start A New Year & A New You!

Below highlights new programs that will be added to our exciting Winter schedule.  Try some, try all, but don't let 1 pass you by!

Program:        Interval Training
Day:                Wednesdays
Time:              6:30-7:30 pm

Question: What is circuit training?

Answer:  Circuit training is a great way to do resistance training and aerobic/anaerobic training in one workout.  Burn fat with a cardio & weight training workout that alternates 4-minute segments of cardio with 4-minute segments of weight training with little or no rest, until you've completed all of them.  By doing the exercises consecutively, your heart rate stays in the aerobic zone, at the same time developing lean muscle tissue. Extra: Circuit training burns more calories in less time than a typical strength training workout!

Program:        Aqua Fitness
Days:              Tuesdays/Thursdays:  6:30-7:30 pm
Location:        ConCorde Swim and Fitness Center

Have you ever considered including water fitness in your exercise routine? This can be a great way to increase strength, flexibility and cardiovascular health. Water has serious resistance power, allowing you to work opposing muscles at the same time. For example, if you are doing curls underwater, pulling up will work the biceps, while pushing down will build up the triceps.

Another great feature about water is its buoyancy, which is simply the tendency or capacity to remain afloat in a liquid. It reduces your weight, therefore putting significantly less stress on your joints, bones and muscles. Compared to other exercises such as running, there is no impact on any of your joints. It is estimated that body weight is compounded up to five times during the heel strike when running or jogging. This is avoided in water. Water fitness requires use of your core as well, that is, utilizing your back, abdominals and obliques.   Hand held water weights and noodles are provided in class.   Pool temperature is maintained at 82 degrees.

Random Thoughts

A longtime client of Team Fit's recently forwarded the below message to me.  ENJOY!

Random Thoughts for the Day:

I think part of a best friend's job should be to immediately clear your computer history if you die.

Nothing sinks more than that moment during an argument when you realize you're wrong.

I totally take back all those times I didn't want to nap when I was younger.

There is great need for a sarcasm font.

How the heck are you supposed to fold a fitted sheet?

Was learning cursive really necessary?

Map Quest really needs to start their directions on #5.  Pretty sure I know how to get out of my neighborhood.

I can't remember the last time I wasn't at least kind of tired.

Bad decisions make good stories.

You never know when it will strike, but there comes a moment at work when you know that you just aren't going to do anything productive for the rest of the day.

Can we all just agree to ignore whatever comes after Blue Ray?   I don't want to have to restart my collection...again.

I'm always slightly terrified when I exit out of "Word" and it asks me if I want to save any changes to my ten page research paper that I swear I did not make any changes to.

I hate when I just miss a call by the last ring (Hello? Hello? Darn it!), but when I immediately call back, it rings nine times and goes to voicemail. What'd you do after I didn't answer? Drop the phone and run away?

I keep some people's phone numbers in my phone just so I know not to answer when they call.

I think the freezer should have a light too.

Motivation Quote

Are you paying attention to your health?

He who cures a disease may be the skillfullest, but he that prevents it is the safest physician.
             - Thomas Fuller, British clergyman and author

If you want to be around to enjoy your growing family, it's never too late to start taking care of your body. Whether or not "skillfullest" is a word, Thomas knows the value of prevention versus treatment. You have a better chance of survival by using the doctor that keeps you out of the hospital in the first place. Why wait for symptoms to show up before you start paying attention? By then, it may be too late. Remember the major goals and the people that you're living for. Are you really willing to risk missing out because you didn't take precautions? You'd be amazed at how some basic, simple everyday nutrition and fitness choices and actions make a big difference in staying on your feet. Injuries and disease are a steep price to pay when many can easily be avoided.

Answer to Food Showdown

Wendy's wins this battle. Their grilled chicken sandwich contains 370 calories and 8 grams of fat. Not bad for drive-thru! Burger King, with virtually the same sandwich, packs 450 calories and 10 grams of fat into their sandwich. Although both will also give you nearly half your daily intake of sodium, these chicken sandwiches are much healthier than burgers.
