| Greetings!
Happy New Year! I am so excited for 2009 and all the wonderful things in store. As I do with every New Year, I had the chance to reflect on all of the blessings in 2008 and strategize and plan for 2009. Some of the highlights for 2008 include the launching of our web site, our newest facility in Chesterfield, getting accepted into NERPA, working on new programs and products, increase in vendor events and endorsements, and my wonderful staff grew and got even stronger and stronger.
The TF team is fully immersed and passionate about doing great things in 2009. I feel extremely blessed to be surrounded by so many great trainers, Pilates and yoga instructors, and staff. Great things are in store for our staff this year and I am excited to have a year where we can focus on doing what we do best. Our clients and guests of Team Fit will surely prosper from a fired-up, motivated staff.
I wish you and your family a happy, healthy New Year and one that all your personal and business resolutions and goals come true!
Peace and God Bless,
Jill Turvey |

"Unless we go beyond what we've already mastered, we will not grow."
Take a minute, and re-read that quote. Think about those words, and think about what they mean to you. Now ask yourself, "Am I truly doing everything in my power to go beyond what I already know?" Too much of our society these days is based on one word: comfort. Everyone is quick to make a resolution this time of year. The favorites are always along the lines of "I want to lose weight" or "I want to quit [insert bad habit here]". When trying to make a positive change, at the first sign of discomfort we throw our hands up in the air, say "This is too hard", and revert back to the easy, more comfortable way of doing things. You simply cannot and will not succeed without pushing yourself beyond your current limits! When achieving any of your typical New Year's Resolutions, you can't just do things the way you have been and expect results. You're going to have to get those hands dirty and actually be willing to work for what you want. So here is my challenge to you: get out of your own personal comfort zone in 2009! Challenge yourself mentally and physically, and you will without a doubt reap the rewards. Explore your surroundings, learn something new, try something different, and whatever you do, don't sit around and wait for it to happen, Make It Happen! If you're a teacher, make a promise with yourself that you will push your students beyond what they themselves thought they were capable of, and you will be amazed at the results that are actually achievable when everyone is willing to put in a little good old fashioned hard work!

Q&A Board Client Question:
I've been exercising five days per week and eating less for the last 6 months and haven't noticed a significant change in my weight. What can I do to get the pounds to start coming off?
Good job on keeping up the diet and exercise consistently. Here are a few other things to consider when trying to lose weight.
1. Make sure you are eating enough. Although this sounds strange, if you don't eat enough, your body goes into starvation mode and will lower the amount of calories you burn on a daily basis. The best way to figure out how much to eat is to meet with a registered dietician. They are qualified to analyze your current food intake and make some recommendations.
2. Don't neglect the stairs.
Sometimes we tend to overlook the many ways to burn calories that are all around us on a daily basis. Think about taking the stairs every day instead of the elevator, or park your car at the far end of the parking lot the next time you are at the store. These little bits of extra exercise add up over time, so don't write them off just because you're not on a treadmill at the gym. Try to attain 10,000 steps per day and you can track that simply by purchasing a pedometer.
3. Make sure you get your rest. You are working hard to lose the weight, so don't neglect you body when it needs to recover. Your body needs time to recover from the workouts your doing, so make sure you are getting between 7 and 8 hours of sleep per night.
